Barcelona on my mind

One of the girls on my team returned today from her honeymoon and she went to Italy and Barcelona. We went out for lunch today, and as she spoke about her trip and talked about all of places that she ate, it just brought back absolutely fabulous memories of my first trip to Barcelona.

I could live in Barcelona. And I'm actually looking into doing some intensive Spanish courses for a couple of weeks and, I'm going to try to figure out how I can make that happen.

Since we came back, I’ve been asked which country I preferred – Italy or Spain, and they were both so different that it was hard to pick.  While I had amazing experiences in both countries Barcelona pulled me close, and I’ve been finding it hard to let go.  It is a vibrant and exciting city, filled with a combination of modern and ancient history, great culture and amazing food.

Growing up I remember looking at pictures of La Familia Sagrada in library books, so it was a total head trip for me to see it in real life. It’s humbling to realize that one man’s vision has had an amazing and lasting impression on a city, and it made me think about what will be my legacy on this world.

I was also impressed with the food. For years, I've been talking about going to Spain for authentic tapas, and I’m happy that I can cross that off my bucket list.  We spent four days in Barcelona, but I know that will absolutely be back.

In the meantime, I’ll remember the good times and amazing tapas.

Oh my god, this cake was absolutely divine. I'm gonna make it my mission to figure out how to make it. It is a yellow cream cake that has a flan/creme caramel top and is soaked in rum. I'm on the hunt for this recipe. If you have it please share.
